This is as close as I got

Today is almost the end of financial year – woot woo! And I almost participated in a fun run on the weekend. I played hookie from Run Melbourne.  Originally it was something new I had wanted to try and back when I entered, the ambitious time and distance group I had registered in were selected with motivational sentiment.  But when my tepid training regimen was derailed by a family emergency I found the time and energy to train very difficult to muster.  After this had gone on for a few weeks I eventually decided to stop beating myself up about it.  At one point I thought I would just suck it up and struggle through but in the back of my mind I knew during and after I would be just like an underdone cake.  So on the morning of the event I gave my alarm clock (and the brisk morning) a two fingered salute and stayed home.  I only made it as far as the nearest coffee-and-Sunday-paper cafe (after some quality time on the sofa) but today taught the over-extended me an important lesson; sometimes it’s ok to say no.  Sometimes you even need to.
